Second study-seminar for Estonian speaking schools at Remniku Study and Recreation Centre

On 5th until 6th of February, students from Estonian speaking schools once again gathered at Remniku Study and Recreation Centre. Second study-seminar focused on child’s participation right and brought together as partners of the project: UNICEF Estonia, Estonian Debating Society and NGO Foorumteater.
During two days, students learned how to write an official letter to directors, officials and decision-makers. Estonian Debating Society taught the youngsters, how to debate and how to prove your opinion.
NGO Foorumteater worked with teachers, introdusing them with different Theatre of the Oppressed techniques: forum theatre, invisible theatre etc. By the end of the first day, teachers also prepared a small invisible theatre play for the students.

The third study-seminar will take place at the beginning of April and the topic of the third study-seminar is child as a bearer of rights and obligations intended to child.

“Children’s Rights: from Theory to Practice” conference

In September, a conference “Children’s Rights: from theory to practice” took place in Madrid. The conference was organized by European Network of Masters in Children’s Rights. The main aim of the conference was to share knowledges and experiences between universities and leading NGO-s working in the children’s rights area.
During one workshop, NGO Estonian Union for Child Welfare’s project’s “Child’s Voice” project leader’s presentation took place. Introduction of Estonia’s practices was supported by illustrative poster: Non-discrimination and equality in general human rights law – defining the basis of international protection of the rights of the child.
Participatin in the conference was supported by National Foundation of Civil Society.

“Child’s Voice!” is starting with the study-seminars

On the 26th until 27th of November, the project “Child Voice!” will bring together students and teachers from three different schools to Remniku Study and Recreation Centre. The activities in the first study-seminars are carried out by: UNICEF Estonia, NGO Mondo, NGO Foorumteater and NGO Estonian Union for Child Welfare

On the first seminar, youngsters are explained about their role in realization and carrying out their own rights and obligations. For that, our partners will work together with youngsters, while explaining about the rights and obligations intended for them. All the study-seminars are carried out like work-shops: active participation and experiencing, different games and simulations and joint discussions.

For Russian speaking schools, the study-seminar will have the same content and it will take place on the 5th until 6th of December, again at Remniku Study and Recreation Centre. At this study-seminar, youngsters and teachers from three different Russian speaking schools are attending, carrying put the same work-shops with the same partners.

In addition to named study-seminars, there will be three study-seminars more: two for Estonian speaking schools (Gymnasium of Jõhvi, Gymnasium of Iisaku, Gymnasium of Avinurme), two for Russian speaking schools (Narva Paju School, Kiviõli Vene School, Sillamäe Kannuka School) and one joint study-seminar, where all the youngsters (from every school, together with Estonian speaking and Russian speaking youngsters) are participating.

The project will finish with achild rights monitoring, put together by youngsters themselves. Materials, games and tool sdeveloped during the project, are available to everybody working with children.

The project is funded by EMP foundation via Open Estonian Foundation and Social Ministry of Estonia.

Advisory Board’s meeting

Today, the advisory board of the project “Child’s Voice” met. During the meeting, following topics were discussed:

the process of the project
planning the study module
electing the schools participating in the project
future actions

The next time the advisory board of the project meets, is on the 5th – 7th of August in Remniku Study- and Vacation Centre, where an international training of child rights is held.

School visits

Soon the visits of the schools in Ida-Virumaa will start. During the visits, the project “Child’s Voice” is introduces by the project team itself. The partner schools will be decided already in June!
